15 Petroleum Jelly Hacks You Should Try!

A few days ago, a rash appeared around my abdominal area. I did not know where it came from, it was super itchy and annoying, so I asked my friend’s sister, who is a dermatologist, for some help. Since I can’t have my rash checked up on that day, she suggested that I use some petroleum jelly first until she finds out what’s the cause of my rash was. That’s made me realize how petroleum jelly should be a staple for everyone, especially for beauty geeks (like me)!

My fave petroleum jelly of all time, Vaseline’s! I do not have the normal one right now, so this’ll do as this post’s photo for now :p

Now, if you want to know more petroleum jelly hacks, just keep on reading! 🙂

1. Eyelash Serum (My BFF and I swear by this!)
If you want your lashes to grow and look healthier, apply enough jelly to cover your lashes before you sleep. Leave it overnight, then wash it off the next day. With continuous use, you’ll have your long and thick lashes in no time!

2. Tinted Lip Balm
Do you have a favorite shade of eye shadow that you’ve been wanting to have as a lip color? Just mix that onto some petroleum jelly, and you’ll have your new favorite tinted lip balm on hand in a few seconds. 😉

3. Cheek Highlighter
Just dab a small amount on the temples of your cheeks evenly, and you’re good to go!

4. Teeth Jelly (I admit, I do not like doing this, but I’ve tried it and it works!)
Use this to protect your teeth from getting lipstick stains! Just apply a thin layer over your front teeth before applying your lipstick.

5. Hair Dye Protectant (I’ve been doing this since I was a kid; I used to color my momma’s and poppa’s hair lol. Now, I do it when I color mine.)
Put some petroleum jelly around your hairline and your ears before coloring your hair to keep the dye away from your skin.

6. Ear Lubricant (My pediatrician taught me this trick as a kid. I’ve loved it ever since.)
Put a little amount of petroleum jelly on your ear lobes (near and on the part/s where the hole is/are) to put on earrings easier, and to avoid redness around it!

7. Nail Cuticle / Skin Protectant
If you love nail art, then you’ll love this hack too! Apply some petroleum jelly on your cuticles and the skin surrounding your nails to keep the nail polish off of them!

I use this for my lips and cheeks only, btw!

8. Bad Hair Day Saver
If you have a lot of split ends, try using this to seal them! Just rub a wee bit of jelly on the ends of your hair, and say bye-bye to your bad hair days!

9. Bruise & Wound Protectant
The jelly doesn’t help in healing them, but it does a great job in protecting them! Just apply a thin layer of jelly on your open wound / bruise to have it protected from dirt. That way, your wounds and bruises won’t sting, too!

10. Wind Burn Treatment (I swear by this too!!!)
Petroleum jelly should be everyone’s BFF when it comes to wind burns. Yes, it might look gooey, and it may not look pleasing to the eyes, but it works! It protects your lips from the wind, and keeps your wind burn from burning.

11. Lip Scrub
Who knew that brown sugar & petroleum jelly could be a perfect match? Yup, you read it right! Just mix those two, and scrub all those dry skins away!

12. Soothing Jelly (for fever)
Apply some chilled petroleum jelly on your forehead to keep those bad & hot vibes away!

13. Perfume Preserver
Yup, petroleum jelly can make your perfume last a few hours longer than usual. Just spread a thin layer on your neck and wrists, then top it with your favorite perfume!

14. Mascara Dupe (I haven’t found a mascara that doesn’t smudge on my under eyes so I’ve been using this for the mean time hehe)
After curling your lashes, put a small amount of petroleum jelly on your lashes! Use a spooly (or a mascara brush) to even out the look of your lashes!

15. Brow Serum (This comes in handy when I’m too lazy to prep or fix my brows!)
Put a thin layer on your brows, spread it evenly with a spooly, and you’re good to go! You can also use this as an overnight treatment to help your brows grow! It might feel weird, but we all gotta keep our brow games strong, right? 😉

Have you tried any of these hacks? Or did you see one that you want to try out? Please let me know in the comments down below! You guys know I love hearing from you! 🙂

  1. This is a brilliant post; I never really thought about how many uses it has. I use it when tinting my eyebrows, it’s really good. I also used to use it to prevent nappy rash when my children were younger xx

  3. i’ve been using this since i was a kid to moisturize my hair, i now use it on one of my three girls for her hair and it still works fine. I also used it on my lips the winter I visited my mom when I realised how harsh the wind was. when my girls get brusies they often cry to bathe so i layer their bruise with it to prevent the water from getting on the bruise and burning it. it is really handy but some of the things you listed I’m not sure I’m willing to try! lol

  6. Some great tips here, I always use petroleum jelly on my face to stop me accidentally dying my face blue – which would not be a good look! I never thought to make lip gloss with it though! Thanks 🙂

  7. I put Petroleum Jelly UNDER my eyes before sleep and after I cleanse my face in the AM (before putting on make up)… It’s awesome – and has helped reduce my bags for sure … AND it obviously helps if you have dry skin under eyes (which make bags and circles look worse) – I swear by it! I still have some circles but definitely not as bad!

  8. Great post. I was bought up y a mother who believed that Vaseline (petroleum jelly) was a cure all. If I went camping, I could always guarantee that mum would have snuck a jar in my backpack. Skiing with the school, yep… Vaseline for chapped lips…. so why I have personal experience of some of these tips, there is more here than i would have imagined. Great stuff and a special thanks for helping me revive so long lost memories of my mother!

  9. I didn’t know there were so many uses but I have used it as a lip scrub, for those pesky hairs that stand on end and as a skin protectant. I have actually included into my lotions so that my skin doesn’t dry out quickly.

  10. I have Vaseline’s original petroleum jelly which I ordered online. Mom and I searched different drugstores pero wala pang ganyan dito before siguro kasi province 😆 It is now included in my minimal routine, nag-aapply ako sa lashes and brows ko using a spoolie, leaving it overnight (nag improve na dati daliri lang gamit ko haha). After a couple of weeks naging visible naman yung results 😊 tsaka nagkaroon na din yung drugstores dito sa amin ng stocks niyan I cried lol. It’s a good clear mascara din ginagamit ko siya to prep my lashes often times when I have to go out. Plus doon sa lipscrub, you might as well try mixing it with honey! Sooobrang nakaka-tempt kainin though I’ve read some article na pwede rin siyang maging edible as long as few portions lang ng jelly yung mattake 😋 p.s followed you on Instagram ha. Here’s my handle: @lsunshineandres. SOOO much love from the Ph! 😍😘
